What to Expect at a KMC NC Meditation Class

About the classes

The meditation classes and events explain Buddhist meditation, ideas, and practice. They combine guided

meditation with practical spiritual advice that you can apply immediately to relieve stress and solve problems

in your life.

Everyone is welcome

The classes are suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators. The classes are

easy to follow and do not need prior knowledge or experience. You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend or

to benefit from the techniques taught. We generally sit on chairs to ensure everyone is comfortable, but there

are cushions on the floor if you prefer.

Class format

The teacher typically begins the class with a breathing meditation to relax and prepare the mind. He or she

will give a talk based on Buddha’s teachings and explain how to put it into practice in daily life. The teacher

will lead another guided meditation, this time focusing on the meaning of the teaching. There will be a chance

to ask questions at the end of the class if time allows. After the class, everyone is welcome to stay for light

refreshments, talk with the teacher and meet other students.

Attending the classes

The classes are organized as short courses, usually 3-6 weeks long. You can attend the whole course or simply

drop in whenever you can as each class is self-contained.

Day & Half-day courses
The structure of these events is similar to that of the weekly classes, with two or more sessions of teaching
and meditation with breaks in between.
