“Dorje Shugden will bless our minds to help us transform difficult situations into the spiritual path, and he will open the wisdom eyes of his faithful followers, enabling them always to make the right decisions.” - Heart Jewel, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
In his Dharma teachings, Buddha taught many methods for transforming adverse conditions into the spiritual path to enlightenment. In order for these methods to work, we must apply them to our own situation, but especially we need to receive wisdom blessings from holy beings. Blessings transform our mind from a negative state to a positive state, from an unhappy state to a happy state, or from a state of weakness to a state of strength. Through such inspiration, although the external situation may stay much the same, we will be able to face it with a peaceful mind. This is the real meaning of transforming adverse conditions into the spiritual path.
An empowerment is a very special blessing ceremony that functions to heal our mental continuum and awaken our Buddha nature. Each empowerment introduces us to a particular enlightened Deity, their prayers and mantras. The particular enlightened Deity to which we will be introduced in this empowerment is Dorje Shugden. Dorje Shugden is the principal Dharma Protector of the New Kadampa Tradition of modern Buddhism. A Dharma Protector is an emanation of a Buddha or a Bodhisattva whose main functions are to avert the inner and outer obstacles that prevent practitioners from gaining spiritual realizations, and to arrange all the necessary conditions for their practice.
In the ensuing teachings and meditations we will learn how we can integrate relying on the Dharma
Protector with all our other meditation practices through the practice of Heart Jewel, which is done regularly at all our Kadampa Centers.
