“If we check carefully how we are experiencing problems and unhappiness, we can understand that they are all created by our uncontrolled desire, wishing ourself to be happy all the time.” - How to Transform Your Life, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
Have you ever wanted something so badly that you just made yourself miserable? According to Buddhism, the source of all our unhappiness, mental pain and suffering is our attachment. This means getting stuck on something we think will give us real happiness, but actually destroying our inner peace, the real source of happiness, in the process. But how can we control our desire without losing our pleasure and enjoyment in life?
In this retreat, we will look at the Buddhist teachings on non-attachment. This does not mean becoming uncaring or disconnected from people. It just means controlling, not repressing, our desire, so that our mind remains at peace whether things go our way or not. From this, a deep contentment and joy that cannot be changed by external conditions arises naturally from within.
