“O Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka, synthesis of all three lineages in one, I request you, please dispel all my outer and inner obstacles, ripen my mental continuum, liberate me from dualistic appearance, and bless me so that I will effortlessly benefit all living beings.” - The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land According to Highest Yoga Tantra
The Hundreds of Deities of the Joyful Land According to Highest Yoga Tantra is the Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa as a preliminary practice for Mahamudra. In this context, ‘yoga’ means a ritual practice that is a special way of relying upon the Spiritual Guide. Since the root of all spiritual realizations of Sutra and Tantra is relying purely upon the Spiritual Guide, the practice of Guru yoga is an essential practice of Buddhism.
In this special retreat, visiting teacher Gen Khedrub will give teachings and guide meditations on Guru Sumati Buddha Heruka. By engaging in these meditations, we can receive the powerful blessings of all Buddhas through our Spiritual Guide.
Gen Kelsang Khedrub is the Resident Teacher at Kadampa Meditation Center Boston. He has been studying and practicing Kadampa Buddhism under the guidance of Ven. Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche for over 30 years. Gen Khedrub has served as a Resident Teacher in Chicago and in Seattle, and over the years he has taught special events and led meditation retreats around the country. His heartfelt teachings are presented with clarity and humor that make them accessible to everyone. Through his humility and deep understanding of Buddha’s teachings, Gen Khedrub provides an inspiring example of a contemporary Buddhist practitioner we can follow.
