How to Make Yourself Happy: The Law of Karma

We all want to be happy, but we usually try to find happiness in things outside ourself. By now, we have probably seen through our own experience that even when we get the things we want, we’re still not happy if our mind is not at peace. And sometimes we might find it hard to control our mind and be happy, even when there is no apparent reason to be unhappy.
In this introductory retreat, Gen Norbu will introduce the law of karma and how to use an understanding of it to make ourself happy. Using this understanding to guide our decisions about what to do and what not to do is the basis of moral discipline. And understanding the relationship between our state of mind and what karma ripens in our experience is essential for our happiness. All of this will be explained, as well as how to use meditation to give us more power in these practices.

“Generally, karma means 'action.' From non-virtuous actions comes suffering, and from virtuous actions comes happiness: if we believe this, we believe in karma.” - Modern Buddhism, Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
